Bulletin Boards

Hello again! It is bulletin board time.  This is my big bulletin board for March.  Under each shamrock is something special. A piece of candy, extra time at recess, etc.  They get to take one off and whatever is under the shamrock they got! They really love finding out what is under each one.

This one really isn't a bulletin board, but we put it up in our art room! It turned out really great!

This is the board inside my room.  We did color mixing and they all got to mix and make color wheels. The students really enjoyed it and learned about Primary and Secondary colors! (:

P and Q Week!

For P week, we made parrots and a class peacock.  This week was split into two and we also worked on Q.  For Q we made books and practice our writing skills.

This parrot was a real hoot with the kiddos.  They all thought it was an angry bird.  Even some of the parents thought it was an angry bird.  I laughed because in the end, it did sort of turn out that way.  We used paper plates and painted them red.  Using a template, the students colored the other parts using crayons.  After the paint dried, students glued on the extra pieces.

For the peacock, I traced the students hands on construction paper.  I put that had on other construction paper and cut out the hands so that I would have enough feathers to cover the whole bird.  It turned out really good!

If you haven't noticed, I got a new camera.  I got an iPhone 4s and the camera on that thing is amazing! My pictures from here on out should be much better!

Long Time Coming... O Week!

Sorry about waiting so long to post.  That is the busy life of a teacher I suppose! (:  Anyway, for O week we made O paintings and we talked about what an octopus was.  We practiced writing letter O and came up with words that started with letter O.

Using paint, students created an octopus.  They got to choose which color they liked best.  They painted their hand and keeping their fingers all together you press down to make the body.  Then you repaint the fingers and use the fingers to make the legs.  They turned out really good!

We also did "O" paintings. Using the letter O they had to create masterpieces.  You can see the flowers and clouds in this one! A lot of them had trouble with this concept of just using an O to make pictures.  As long as I saw some sort of O in the painting in the end, it was fine!

Bee Mine - Valentine's Day Gift for Parents

Here is a picture of the Valentine's Day surprise the kiddos and I made for their parents.  They turned out really great! Once again, the photo quality isn't the best, but I'm hoping to get a new phone with a better camera in the near future.  I just used construction paper for the bee and wax paper for the wings.  I printed about a picture of them to paste on the bee's head.

Review Week

It is review week this week.  I had my students review letters A though N as well as their sounds.  Here are a few of the projects we did.

The first one is inspired from Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom! Students got to choose a letter from A to N and they had to come up with a word that went along with that letter.  The students loved this book and loved pointing out the letters they recognized from the story.

Another project we did was painting letters.  I had created flashcards and put them on the table for students.  I randomly chose different letters and they had to identify them as well as the sounds.  They loved being able to paint their letters and it helped with fine motor skills.

The last doesn't deal with letters, but math. I do math every Friday.  This activity correlates with Valentine's Day next week. I have students a certain amount of hearts and they had to count them out of a pile or add some back to the pile.  We only pasted 1-5 on the paper, but the kids had a blast with it!

Thumbprint Counting Book

Hello all! It is N week and we are concentrating on numbers! I made a My Thumbprint Counting Book with my kiddos.  We did numbers 1-10 and on each page they used their thumb prints to create different things; apples, dogs, fish, bunnies, etc.

Here is what the cover looked like.

I made sure to put one of each thing we made on the cover.
The following pictures are pages 1-10.
One Red Apple

Two Green Frogs

Three Black Spiders

Four Purple Butterflies

Five Orange Pumpkins

Six Brown Dogs

Seven Pink Bunnies

Eight Red Ladybugs

Nine Yellow Bees

Ten Orange Fish

This was a long process and with little help and Catholic Schools week going on, it took me four days to do it.  The students had fun doing it and were learning at the same time so that was the important thing.  I'm sure they will be just as happy as I am that these are going home tomorrow.

Sorry about the picture quality. I am having to use my phone and it isn't the best picture taker.  Hope you enjoy and I hope that you try this out with your kids!

Ladybug Math

This week was L week.  My class learned all about the letter L this week.  We learned about animals as well as doing activities that involved the letter.  One activity we did this week was Ladybug Math.  I created ladybugs with dots on each wing.  In groups of three or four we added the dots on each wing together to get the total.  They did a really great job with it and seemed to really make the connection between the dots on the two different wings and how they all add up to get the total amount.  Here is a picture of the bulletin board I made to display their math.
